As soon as Megan stepped into the office, she felt like something was off. The place was empty, but for some reason, the air around her was charged with electricity. Just as she sat down at her desk, the floor beneath her rumbled. Ryan, her coworker, burst through the door, looking disheveled and panicked.
"Megan, thank god you're here. You need to come with me right now," he said breathlessly, grabbing her by the arm. Megan didn't have time to protest before Ryan was pulling her towards the back of the office and into the supply room.
"What the hell is going on?" Megan asked, trying to keep up with Ryan's brisk pace.
"I don't have time to explain," Ryan said, slamming the door shut behind them. "Just know that we can't go back out there."
Megan watched as Ryan pushed a desk up against the door, barricading them inside. It was only then that she realized how close they were standing, their bodies pressed up against each other. Ryan shifted and looked down at her, his eyes dark and serious.
"Look, I know this is weird and everything, but we have to keep quiet," he said, his hand moving to her waist. "I need you to help me with something."
