As the sun started to set behind the family homestead, Genevieve found herself walking towards the barn to escape the loud chatter of the family reunion. She needed to clear her head before she saw her ex, who had just arrived. She could already feel the tension between them.
As she rounded the corner of the barn, she saw her cousin Wyatt smoking a cigarette. "Mind if I join you, cuz?" she asked, grabbing a cigarette from his pack.
"No problem, Gen," replied Wyatt, offering her a light. "You look like you could use a break from the madness."
They stood there smoking in silence for a bit before Wyatt spoke up. "So, how's it going with Jake?"
Genevieve rolled her eyes. "Same as ever. He's trying to act like everything's fine, but I know he's still mad about the breakup."
The conversation stalled as they smoked. But then, Wyatt leaned in and whispered in Genevieve's ear, "You know, there's always one way to get back at an ex."
She turned to him, surprised. "What do you mean?"
